Kingz was founded in 2011 out of a basement in Winnipeg, Canada — four shelves of product, zero outside funding, and one conviction: that practitioners deserved better gear than what was available.

From the beginning, we chose to grow from the inside out. While most brands invest the bulk of their budget in advertising, we put ours directly into the sport — starting with local events and local athletes, building relationships one at a time. Some of those athletes went on to compete at the highest levels in the world. We were there from the beginning, not as a marketing strategy, but because this is the community we belong to.

In 2014, we moved to San Diego — the heartbeat of BJJ in North America — and kept building from there.

Every gi we produce is held to the standard we'd hold our own gear to on the mat. Every detail — the weave, the fit, the stitching — is deliberate. We've trained in gear that lets you down. That is not the product we make.

Fifteen years in, Kingz gis are on every continent. That didn't happen through advertising. It happened through the sport — through the athletes who carried our name onto competition mats, the coaches who brought it into their academies, and the practitioners who trusted us with their training and told others about it.

We are a family business built on the values the mat teaches: honesty, discipline, and respect for the people around you. Every person who puts on a Kingz gi is part of what makes this possible. We don't take that lightly.
