      Interview with Fellipe Andrew- Coming Soon!

      We caught up with Fellipe Andrew after one of his training sessions ahead of his Sub Series debut. Fellipe recently captured open weight gold at the IBJJF European Championship in Lisbon, Portugal. In this interview Felipe talks about where he is from, how he got introduced to Jiu Jitsu, how he bounced back from a loss in the finals of his weight division at Europeans and what the Jiu Jitsu lifestyle means to him.

      The Importance of Habit

      “Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going.

      Here’s the thing about habits: they’re really hard to break. That’s why, in life, it’s really important to build good habits. What is the goal that you have in your life? Do you want to go to the gym more? Do you want to eat healthier? Train more in the Gi? Just train more Jiu-Jitsu overall? It is very easy to say, “Oh, I should really start lifting regularly”, but it is also very easy to then not do it.  In this way Jiu-Jitsu is similar to life, it is very important to develop good habits and practice these habits every time we step on the mats.

      Making the Most of Our Losses

      At the Pan Kids Championship this weekend, I was moved by the amount of emotion I witnessed. These kids brought every bit as much passion to those mats as I have seen at an adult world championship. They fought their little hearts out. There were many tears at the end of matches, both happy and sad. I often heard the phrase “you win, or you learn” thrown around. I’ve always had a hard time with this phrase, mainly because I believe that losing is important. Losing is a normal, integral part of both life and Jiu-Jitsu, and I believe it should be acknowledged. However, I understand the sentiment behind this famous phrase. If we look at it with the right perspective, losing can be a springboard from which we spur enormous growth.
