Meet the Founder

My name is Bruno Munduruca, and Jiu-Jitsu has been my life since I was 18 years old.

I was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and moved to Canada in 2006. Jiu-Jitsu came with me.

I started training in 1998. I didn't know then that the mat would shape not just how I move, but how I think, how I lead, and how I treat people. Twenty-seven years later, it still does.

As a Gracie Humaita black belt, I've competed at the highest levels of the sport — including gold medals in all IBJJF major championships. But the medals are not what I'm most proud of.

What I'm most proud of is the athletes I've had the honor of supporting — some of them for over ten years. Watching someone you believed in early go on to succeed at the highest levels, to grow the sport, to inspire the next generation — that is the greatest satisfaction this journey has given me. More than any podium.

I know what it means to stand at the edge of a competition mat with everything on the line. I know the work, the doubt, the sacrifice, and the joy. I've stood in the same shoes as every competitor I've ever sponsored. That is not something you learn in a boardroom. It's something the mat teaches you, slowly, over years.

When I founded Kingz in 2011 — out of that basement in Winnipeg — I brought all of that with me. I didn't build a gear brand to capitalize on a sport I admired from the outside. I built it because I live this sport, and I wanted to create something that met the standards it deserves. No outside funding. No shortcuts. By 2014 we were in San Diego, growing the team, and pushing the work further.

Jiu-Jitsu gave me my discipline, my community, my perspective, and ultimately my purpose — as a business owner and as a person. Everything Kingz stands for comes from that journey on the mat. The resilience, the humility, the drive to improve — those aren't values we wrote in a meeting. They're what the sport taught me.
