Women's BJJ Gi & No-Gi Guide: Fit, Sizing and What to Wear
Quick answer: For the gi, pick a women's cut (sizes F0–F5) and size by weight first, then height. The Kore V2 Women's ($100) is the best value, The ONE V2 Women's ($120) is the best all-around first gi, the Nano 3.0 Women's ($129.95) is a light gi for less, and the Ultralight 2.0 Women's ($169.95) is the lightest women's gi we've weighed. Wear a snug rash guard underneath; IBJJF requires one in women's divisions. For no-gi, a rash guard plus grappling shorts or spats is all you need.
Most BJJ gear guides are written around men's sizing, and then women are told to "just size down." That's how you end up with sleeves past your fingertips and a jacket that gapes at the chest. This guide covers what's actually different about women's gis, how to size one, what to wear under it, and the no-gi kit to build, all with honest specs from the Kingz women's lineup.
What makes a women's gi different
Kingz women's gis use an F size scale (F0–F5). They're proportioned with narrower shoulders and a more tapered waist than our men's A sizes. The cut changes; the quality doesn't. Each women's model uses the same weave, the same triple-reinforced stress points and the same vulcanized rubber lapel insert as its men's version.
How to size a women's gi
- Weight first. Weight decides how the jacket wraps across your torso, so it's the most important measurement.
- Height second. Height fine-tunes sleeve and pant length. For IBJJF competition, sleeves must reach within 2 cm of your wrist with your arm extended, and pants within 2 cm of your ankle bone.
- Between sizes? Size up. A slightly large gi can be shrunk into shape, but a small one can't be stretched. Ultralight and Balistico are 100% pre-shrunk. All our other gis, including the Kore V2, The ONE V2, Nano 3.0 and Empowered, are 95% pre-shrunk, so expect 3–5% shrinkage.
Start with weight, then use height to fine-tune. This is our general women's size chart:
| Size | Your weight | Your height |
|---|---|---|
| F0 | 95–115 lbs (43–52 kg) | 4'8"–4'11" (142–150 cm) |
| F1 | 110–125 lbs (50–57 kg) | 4'11"–5'2" (150–157 cm) |
| F2 | 120–135 lbs (55–61 kg) | 5'3"–5'6" (160–168 cm) |
| F3 | 130–160 lbs (59–72 kg) | 5'5"–5'8" (165–173 cm) |
| F4 | 160–185 lbs (72–84 kg) | 5'9"–6'0" (175–183 cm) |
| F5 | 185–205 lbs (83–92 kg) | 6'0"–6'4" (183–193 cm) |
Each women's gi page also has its own F0–F5 chart with jacket and pant measurements. For the full method, see the Kingz size guide and How to Size a BJJ Gi Correctly. If it's not right, our Perfect Fit Guarantee gives you 60 days from delivery to exchange an unworn, unwashed gi.

What to wear under your gi
In IBJJF women's divisions, a stretchy, body-hugging shirt under the gi is required. It can be short or long sleeve and doesn't have to follow belt-color rules. A one-piece swimsuit or gymnastics top is also allowed. You can also wear elastic leggings or spats under the gi pants, as long as they're shorter than the pants. In practice, a snug rash guard is the simplest choice: it stays put, protects your skin and goes straight into your no-gi kit.

Frequently asked questions
Are women's BJJ gis different from men's?
Yes. Kingz women's gis (sizes F0–F5) are proportioned with narrower shoulders and a more tapered waist than our men's A sizes. The cut changes; the quality doesn't. They use the same weaves, reinforcements and IBJJF-approved construction as the men's versions of each model.
What size women's BJJ gi should I get?
Start with your weight, then use your height to fine-tune sleeve and pant length. If you're between sizes, size up, because a slightly large gi can be shrunk but a small one can't be stretched. As a guide, F0 fits about 95–115 lbs (4'8"–4'11"), F2 120–135 lbs (5'3"–5'6") and F4 160–185 lbs (5'9"–6'0"). Every women's gi page has its own F0–F5 chart, and the Kingz size guide explains how to measure. Our Perfect Fit Guarantee gives you 60 days from delivery to exchange an unworn, unwashed gi.
What should women wear under a BJJ gi?
A snug rash guard or sports top. In IBJJF women's divisions, a stretchy, body-hugging shirt under the gi is required. It can be short or long sleeve and doesn't have to follow belt-color rules, and a one-piece swimsuit or gymnastics top is also allowed. Women may also wear elastic leggings or spats under the gi pants, as long as they're shorter than the pants. Most academies follow the same idea for training.
What is the best women's BJJ gi for beginners?
The Kore V2 Women's ($100) is our most wallet-friendly women's gi: a 380 GSM micro pearl weave jacket and 275 GSM cotton pants, 100% IBJJF approved. For a little more substance, The ONE V2 Women's ($120) and the Empowered ($139.95, free gi bag) step up to a 400 GSM jacket.
What is the best lightweight women's gi?
On the scale, the Ultralight 2.0 Women's ($169.95) is the lightest women's gi we've weighed: 1.18 kg (2.6 lb) in F2. For less, the Nano 3.0 Women's ($129.95) weighs 1.23 kg in F2 and has a 380 GSM jacket, 270 GSM ripstop pants and a free gi bag.
What should women wear for no-gi BJJ?
A snug rash guard plus grappling shorts, spats, or shorts over spats. Start with the Kore V2 rash guard ($45–$50) and either the Hybrid Women's Grappling Shorts ($64.95, with built-in compression shorts and no velcro) or the Kore 2.0 Women's Shorts ($54.95). For IBJJF no-gi, your rash guard must be black, white, or black and white with at least 10% of your belt color.
Are Kingz women's gis IBJJF legal?
The Kore V2, The ONE V2, Nano 3.0, Empowered and Balistico 4.0 women's gis are all listed as IBJJF approved on their product pages. For competition, the gi must also be white, royal blue or black and fit within the IBJJF sleeve and pant length limits, so check the fit after your first few washes.
Can women wear a men's gi?
Yes, and some do, especially taller or broader-shouldered athletes. Men's A sizes are cut wider through the shoulders and chest, and the women's F cut is more tapered at the waist. Compare your measurements against both charts on the product pages and choose the one that fits your frame.
